The cannons are fired during monthly formal retreat ceremonies, retirement ceremonies, special functions and change of command ceremonies held at Fort MacArthur. The 61st Security Forces Squadron personnel maintain and fire the cannons for the special functions. The two French cannons were built in 1917 and 1918 respectively and are mounted on 1940 caissons. The cannons fire 75mm blank cannon shells.
