GPS IIF 2 Launch
A United Launch Alliance Delta IV rocket blasts off from Space Launch Complex-37 at 2:41 a.m. EDT, July 16, with the Air Force's Global Positioning System (GPS) IIF-2 payload.This launch marks the 50th successful GPS launch on a Delta vehicle. GPS IIF-2 is the second in a series of next generation GPS satellites and will join a worldwide timing and navigation system utilizing 24 satellites in six different planes, with a minimum of four satellites per plane positioned in orbit approximately 11,000 miles above the earths' surface. SMC Change of Command
As Lt. Gen. Ellen Pawlikowski assumes command from Lt. Gen. Tom Sheridan, one of Fort MacArthur's two ceremonial cannons fires. The Ceremonial Cannon Detail at Los Angeles AFB has the distinction of being one of the only organizations of its kind in the Air Force. The two French cannons were built in 1917 and 1918 respectively and are mounted on 1940 caissons. The cannons fire 75mm blank cannon shells. (Photo by Sarah Corrice)

SBIRS GEO-1
The first Space Based Infrared Systems geosynchronous (GEO-1) satellite was off-loaded from a C-5 Galaxy aircraft at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., March 3. The encapsulated satellite was transported to the Defense Satellite Communications System Processing Facility where final check out and tests will be performed prior to launch.
