11/2/2010 - LOS ANGELES AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. -- Twenty-two MILSATCOM wingmen, joined by 12,000 other runners and walkers, hit the streets of LA for the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon, Oct. 24. Team MCSW was a true total force with active duty, reserve, civilian, contractor and family participants. Eight MCSW runners crossed the finish line in under two hours.

Team members were recruited by Capt. Matt Flahive to improve the health and wellness of the wing. Runners were provided training tips, training plans, injury advice, nutrition information and lots of encouragement in preparation for the race. As a result, 19 MCSW Airmen ran their first half marathon or set their personal record.

The event "proved to be a great teambuilding activity for all of us." MCSW runners and walkers enjoyed a carbo-loading team dinner the night before the race and three days of carpools to the exposition and race, Capt. Flahive said.

"It was great to carpool with everybody else and have the MCSW wingmen to meet up with after the race. I'm sure this won't be the last half marathon for MCSW runners," said Capt. Adam Tobias.
