Small Business Office
Mission
We are SMC's advocate for small, minority, veteran, Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) and women business owners. Our mission is to promote increased access to SMC's procurement opportunities. The SMC Small Business Office is responsible for the scope of small business programs mandated by public law.
Background
Every federal agency is required by the Small Business Act of 1953, as amended by Public Law 95-507, to establish an office that reports to and advises the head of the agency on the implementation functions and duties under this act. SMC's small business programs nurture entrepreneurial opportunities, open doors to new business horizons, and enhance technological capabilities. It is the policy of the Government to place a fair proportion of its acquisitions with small business, small disadvantaged business, HUBZone small business, and women-owned and veteran-owned business concerns. Such concerns shall also have the maximum practicable opportunity to participate as subcontractors in contracts awarded by any executive agency.
Organization
The Small Business Program is managed by the Small Business Office at the Space and Missile Systems Center, Los Angeles AFB, California.
The Small Business Office maintains a program to locate and assist capable small and small disadvantaged business, woman-owned business and labor surplus area business sources for current and future acquisitions. The Small Business Office provides consultant services to program and contracting offices to identify requirements that have potential small business application. Once these requirements are identified for small business participation, small business sources are screened and evaluated regarding their capabilities, prior to restricting the acquisitions for small business. The Small Business Office also identifies potential subcontract opportunities.
