Walt Chai is the Director of Space Systems, Missile Defense Agency, Schriever AFB, CO.  He is responsible for developing, operating, exploiting, and integrating joint space capabilities for the Ballistic Missile Defense System.

Mr. Chai entered the U.S. Air Force in 1987 as a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.  He has served in key acquisition positions in various organizations including the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization, Secretariat of the Air Force, Air Force Space Command, and Air Force Material Command.  He is Acquisition Level III certified in Program Management and in System Planning, Research, Development, and Engineering.  In addition, he has served in operational weather positions in the U.S. and the Republic of Korea and as a Missile Officer in the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center. 

After retiring from active duty service, he joined the IBM Corporation as the Space and Cyberspace Account Manager leveraging commercial practices to support the Department of Defense.  He returned to government service in February 2010 as the Program Manager for the Joint Space Operations Center Mission System in the Department of the Air Force and later transferred to the Missile Defense Agency in July 2012.
